Hi! My name is Jasper. I'm also known by several other names. I'm Gune to the Mmm... Pi team, Zero to my friends on AnsibleMOO, and Jason to that kid in grade 2.

I'm a student attending Thornhill Secondary School in Thornhill, Ontario. I am one of maybe 100 students identified as "special education: gifted". During the past six years, I have been in partially self-contained classes learning at a rate apparently more in-depth and faster than regular stream classes. The classes also tend to get more involved in discussions and debates. That is the gist of being gifted. The gifted program at Thornhill S.S. ends with grade 10, so in the last two years I've been back in the regular stream, which, unfortunately, makes us seem smarter than everyone else. We try to blend in and not show off, but its hard to do that when you're the only one scoring 100% on the math test.

I'm involved in the Prefects League at school, as well as Mentors, a group of senior students dedicated to helping grade nines adjust to high school life. I am also a member of the SchoolNet Youth Advisory Board, a panel of 19 students from across Canada selected by Industry Canada to advise the government on the use of and deployment of technology to children and students across the nation.

I play the violin, and am currently at a level of RCM 10. I am not, however, involved in any music courses or bands at school as there is no string program at the school.

I am an avid Star Trek fan, and possess hordes of meaningless trivia about starship classes and alien races (You can view my starship classes guide on my Star Trek page). I watched the last two seasons of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the last three seasons of Star Trek: Voyager. I caught up on all the other episodes as well as the entire Star Trek original series and Star Trek: The Next Generation in reruns. I have also seen all the movies. It's a great advantage when writing English exams because there is at least an episode that can be related for any theme!

Besides Star Trek, I also enjoy watching science fiction and war movies, as well as reading historical fiction, science fiction, mystery and action novels. Some of my favourite movies include X-Men, Blade Runner, Hunt for Red October, and several Bonds, including Moonraker, The Man With the Golden Gun and Goldfinger. My favourite written works include Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, Factoring Humanity by Robert Sawyer and The Guns of Navarone by Alistair Maclean.

I thoroughly enjoy working and playing on my computer. I play online games such as Utopia, and constantly role play on MUDs and MOOs such as AnsibleMOO and Star Conquest. I also do a lot of computer programming, most of my knowledge the fruit of hours studying 2 1/2 inch thick technical manuals. I am self-taught in Visual Basic, QBasic, DOS Batch, VBA, VBScript, JavaScript and HTML. I learned Turing and Java in computer courses at school. I scored perfect on the Canadian Computing Competition in 2002, and was with the school team on the ECOO and Woburn contests (we went to the finals on the ECOO and got a decent result). I am a member of the school's Computer Club, where I teach programming (in Turing) to beginners.
