SchoolNet Youth Advisory Board

The SchoolNet Youth Advisory Board is a committee of around 20 youth from across the country selected to participate in online conferences and make recommendations to the Industry Canada about issues concerning youth and technology, computers and Internet.

Applications began in November of 2000. By January of the following year, the SYAB was formed with the first 19 members.

On May 12, 2001, the members met each other face to face for the first time and drafted a presentation for the preliminary findings of the board. The next day, the findings were presented to the public in the presence of Senator Landon Pearson at the National Museum of Science and Technology. The presentation is available online via the links below.

On May 22, 2001, the members of the SYAB reconvened at the Novotel Ottawa and held a discussion-conference on various government issues relating to youth. The board consisted of 23 members, owing to the graduation of 4 members the year before and the selection of 8 new members to fill the ranks.

By September of 2003, another 3 members of the board will graduate, as will another member a few months following that. At this rate, the next round of member applications will occur in 2005.

The SYAB is currently in session for the 2002-03 season. We are discussing issues over the Industry Canada online conference rooms.
